Redoing an old Dresser

Early this spring my wife found an older dresser on Craigslist for $10 bucks. The bones were good but it had been well used. Most likely in a kids room. The top of it was all scratched up. It needed to be re-finished.  Luckily this gave me the opportunity to get a sander. I ended up getting a Milwaukee ORS sander for this project. My wife wanted to help out with this one. We started by taking off the drawer pulls hardware and set them aside for later. Then we got set in sanding. My wife did most of the sander on all of the parts. She started at 60 grit to get the old finish off then on up to 120 grit. The next step was to paint.

But before it could be painted we had to let it sit for a few months to, you know, “air out”. Not really it  like most projects it was started and sat around half finished taking up space. It had come to time that we did need the extra dress for the kids. I drug the dresser into the shop and started to paint. I used some teal paint that we had from a previous project. I started with the drawers. Nothing special just rolled on the paint. They ended all over the shop.

While the first coat dried I started painting the main body. I set it up on some bench cookies with the double spacer to raise it up off the floor. It was not the most stable but it never did fall over.

I went back and forth painting between the main body and the drawers. There were a total of 4 coats in total. We tried to find a new set of drawer pulls but between the time crunch we did not find anything we liked. I ended up spray painting the dra…

I went back and forth painting between the main body and the drawers. There were a total of 4 coats in total. We tried to find a new set of drawer pulls but between the time crunch we did not find anything we liked. I ended up spray painting the drawer pulls that it came with. We decided to go with white to match the teal of the body. That was that and we put it into place.
